The International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications 2012 was held in Taipei, Taiwan, on September 24-27, 2012, under the co-sponsorship of National Taiwan University, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, and YRP R&D Promotion Committee, Japan.
The WPMC Symposia series was inaugurated in 1998 at Yokosuka Research Park, Japan, as a forum for enabling collaboration in the field of wireless multimedia communications. Over the years WPMC has been held in various countries in the world and has established itself as a unique global symposium dedicated to wireless multimedia convergence.
WPMC 2012 was held under the theme of gAutonomous Communication & Networking for Promoting Human Living.h In total, 266 papers were submitted, out of which 154 were accepted, and 244 people from 19 countries and regions had registered for participation. The program consisted of 11 keynote speeches, 4 tutorials, about 20 technical sessions, 8 invited sessions, 2 panel discussions, and one workshop. Various kinds of research results on advanced technologies and latest topics were presented, and the symposium venue was filled with lively discussions during the whole period.
In the Opening Session on Sept. 25, firstly, welcome addresses were given by Prof. Dr. Kwang-Chen Chen, Distinguished Professor and Director, Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering, National Taiwan University, and then, Mr. Chang San-cheng, Minister without Portfolio , Executive Yuan, gave the guest speech. Then, welcome remarks of Dr. Hiroshi Kumagai, Vice President of NICT, and Prof. Dr. Mitsutoshi Hatori, Chairman of YRP R&D Promotion Committee, were given followed by the Keynote Speech of Professor Dr. Vincent Poor , Princeton University, U.S.A.
