On 29-31 May 2019, YRP R&D Promotion Committee, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, and YRP Academia Collaboration Network co-hosted the Wireless Technology Park (WTP) 2019 in Tokyo Big Sight.
WTP is a unique event focused on research and development of wireless communications technologies and held annually in cooperation with industry, academia, and government. The event consists of three parts: the "Exhibition" where you can see the latest wireless technology, the "Seminars" that introduce new technical trends of wireless communications, and the "Academia Session" where university laboratories present R&D results and conclusions.
This year, under the main theme of "Shaping a new society with wireless technology - Beginning of 5G -," the seminars and exhibits in WTP2019 focused on following keywords: Society 5.0, 5G & Beyond 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), Satellite/Indoor Positioning, Location Information, Wireless technology/system for factory use, Millimeter-wave/ Terahertz-wave technology, and Communications technology for drones, etc.
The number of the visitors to the event was approx. 57,000 including the visitors to the co-located events: "Wireless Japan 2019", "Transport System Expo 2019", and "International Drone Expo 2019." We are grateful to all the visitors and all people concerned in the event.
The Opening Ceremony was held in the morning of 29 May in the Exhibition Hall inviting Mr. Yasuo Tawara, Director of Radio Department, Telecommunications Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan, and Mr. Katsuaki Kamiji, Deputy Mayor of the Yokosuka City.

Exhibition and Pavilions
There were 95 exhibitors in WTP2019.
Featuring key technologies of WTP2019, there were pavilions of "5G Tokyo Bay Summit® 2019" "Location Service" and "Flexible Factory Project" in addition to the special booths by MIC exhibiting research results of "MIC's joint research project on cultivation of radio wave resources," and results of the MIC's contest participated by technical college students with the subject of "Technical demonstration of Wireless IoT."
84 presentations were given in the seminars and sessions of WTP 2019 during the 3 days. In cooperation with Wireless Japan 2019, one of the co-located event, joint program of Keynote sessions and special sessions were also planned for 2 days attracting great attention of visitors.
Academia Poster Session was held for the 3 days to provide the university laboratories with the opportunities to present their research activities and results. Meanwhile, IEICE Technical Committee on Reliable Communication and Control (RCC) and IEICE Technical Committee on Health care and Medical Information and Communication Technology (MICT) jointly exhibited posters for 2 days from 29-30 May, and on 31 May, IEICE Technical Committee on Smart Radio joined the event for technical exhibition and seminars.
On 31 May, Academia Session was held with the theme of "Mimo" attracting a good number of audience.
Exhibition on History of Wireless Communications
Historical collections of various communication terminals were also displayed in the exhibition area under the theme "Here comes 5G, five generations have rolled up Evolution and Revolution respectively" in addition to the seminar.
In YRP booth, outline of YRP and major activities of YRP R&D Promotion Committee were introduced: Broadband Wireless Forum, Wireless Smart Utility Networking Use Promotion Committee, etc. The booth also highlighted the he Hybrid LPWA test bed in Yokosuka City, initiative of "Yokosuka Smart Mobility Challenge," and some other initiatives of Yokosuka City Office to invite companies to YRP.
