Greetings from Yokosuka Research Park, Japan.

First of all, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks again to all your kind messages, thoughts and prayers extended to us and Japan since the Great East Japan Earthquake.

We had hard time with deep distress and loss; however, supported by warm sympathy
from all over the world, and given strong conviction that we are not alone, we are moving forward again.

..and here, we would like to deliver you the first edition of English "YRP News" in electronic format.

As a biggest hub of R&D for wireless communication technologies in Japan, YRP will strive to be a driving force to construct more efficient smart-network utilizing all kinds of wireless technologies to realize one of the most effective tools to support restoration activities and disaster prevention for the future.

Top News!

LTE, TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE, GSM/W-CDMA service has started in YRP!

YRP Wireless IOT Center has started LTE, TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE and GSM/W-CDMA testbed service. Our GSM/GPRS, W-CDMA with GSM core network platform has realized the test environments for the development of next generation mobile communication devices for LTE, TD-SCDMA, and TD-LTE.

Development evaluation tests for GSM/GPRS and W-CDMA carried out outside Japan so far, and the tests for LTE, TD-SCDMA, and TD-LTE can be conducted at YRP testbed now. The benefits of using YRP include improvement of development test efficiency and low operating costs.

YRP built Japan's only GSM outdoor test environment!

YRP built the first only GSM outdoor test environment in Japan. The full-scale service will start in autumn 2011.

WPMC 2011 in Brest, France  (Oct. 3-7, 2011)

The 14th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC 2011) will be held for the first time in France. The theme of the Symposium is
"Communications, Networking and Applications for the Internet of Things".  In addition to high-class technical sessions, the Symposium will feature four workshops, tutorials as well as product exhibits.

APT Training Course in YRP  (Dec. 6-14, 2011)

The 12th APT Training Course is to be held at MIC and YRP for the period of Dec. 6-14, 2011.  This program will be jointly organized by YRP R&D Promotion Committee,  Yokosuka Telecom Research Park, Inc., and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and funded by Japan 's extra-budgetary contribution to the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT). As an affiliate member of APT, YRP has supported APT's activities by organizing this annual training course since the year 2001.

-Notice-  IOT Engineer Training Course will start !

There is an increasing need for the specialist of wireless technologies in the fields less related to telecommunications so far, e.g., automobile, car navigation system, and information and communication appliances such as video camera.

To meet this situation, YRP, Inc. will commence the gIOT Engineer Training Courseh from September 2011. In this course, lectures on key technologies and functions, respective architectures and roles of main nodes of core networks and radio access networks, e.g., GSM and W-CDMA networks will be provided, and participants can also experience practical trainings on network operation and various kinds of hand-over tests using real networks.  In addition to the basic training course, a curriculum to meet the needs of each client will be prepared upon requests.

Wireless Japan 2011 in Tokyo Big Site  (May 25-27, 2011)

YRP participated in Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2011 held in Tokyo Big Sight this year again.  There were many attractive exhibitions on smart phones (high-performance mobile phone) and tablets (multifunction mobile phone), which are drastically changing the main stream of mobile terminals. In addition, as the admission for the keynote speeches by communication careers and manufactures were free of charge, participation of many visitors was expected.

Wireless Technology Park 2011, Pacifico Yokohama, Japan(July 5-6, 2011)

Establishment of Global Internet of Things Quality Assurance Association (July 5, 2011)

On July 5, 2011, YRP R&D Promotion Committee, China Mobile Communication Association (CMCA), China Quality Certification Center (CQC), and DIMES Association (DIMES) has agreed to establish Global Internet of Things Quality Assurance Association (GIOT Association) and signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of GIOT Association.

APT-AWF-8 Technical Tour (April 2, 2010)

The 8th meeting of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Wireless Forum (APT-AWF-8) was held in Tokyo in March 29-April 1, 2010.  Taking this opportunity, a YRP technical tour was organized for the forum members on April 2 in cooperation with YRP-participating research laboratories.

Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2010 (July 14-16, 2010)

YRP participated in Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2010 held in Tokyo Big Sight, which is the largest trade exhibition on Wireless technology in Japan. For three days, a total of 49,957people visited the exhibition site of Wireless Japan 2010.

YRP area has been selected as the preceding model for the white space special area for area one-segment broadcasting (July 30, 2010)

MICfs gStudy team for the new vision of radio utilization,h established in December 2009, had discussed about the utilization of white space, etc. from the viewpoint of effective use of the scarce radio frequency, and in the final meeting on July 30, 2010, out of 17 proposals of utilization scheme for white space, 10 proposals including the one proposed by YRP Preparatory Committee for Area Portal Digital Community Broadcast have been selected as the preceding models for the white space special area.

5th Delegation of Japan-China ICT Forum to China (Aug. 3-8, 2010)

During 2-8 August, 2010, JAPAN-CHINA ICT Forum sent out the 5th delegation of its 3rd period (December, 2008|November, 2010) to China to participate in the gJapan-Sino Workshop on Next -generation Mobile Communications and Applicationsh held in Xining City, Qinghai Province. There were more than 50 participants from areas of industry, government and academia of both Japan and China.

Establishment of TRP Plan  Promotion Committee (Jan. 18, 2011)

On January 18, 2011, the 1st General Assembly and Promotion Event of TRP (Taicang Research Park) Plan Promotion Committee were held at TKP Shinagawa Conference Center in Tokyo. Attended by 12 delegates from China led by Ms. LU Yan, Vice Mayor of Taicang city and Mr. NI Jianzhong, Vice President of CMCA, China, and Mr. TAWARA Yasuo, Director of Land Mobile Communications Division, Radio Department, Telecommunications Bureau, Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, the event collected more than 80 participants interested in having business relationship with Taicang city.

Consigned project of MIC to develop the supporting system for the ambulance services in China has started (Feb. 23, 2011)

YRP, Inc. was consigned one of the MIC Ubiquitous Alliance Projects gResearch of advanced supporting system for the ambulance services in China applying Japan's ubiquitous technologies.h  In the project, SAFER (Speedy Ambulance First-Aid, Emergency, Rescue operations supporting) system using cognitive radio and DSRC vehicle to vehicle (v-to-v) communications system has been developed and was demonstrated in Taicang City, Jiangsu, China.
