Final Call for Papers - The 20th International Symposium on
Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC2017)
17-20 December 2017, Bali, Indonesia
Under the main theme "Interconnecting Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications," YRP R&D Promotion Committee and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology will co-host the 20th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC2017) in Bali, Indonesia, from 17 to 20 December 2017.
This time, the WPMC2017 will be held in cooperation with PT. Telkom Indonesia, Telkom University, Indonesia, IEEE Indonesia Section, etc. Full paper’s submission deadline has been extended to 17 August.
On 24-26 May 2017, YRP R&D Promotion Committee, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, and YRP Academia Collaboration Network co-hosted Wireless Technology Park (WTP) 2017 in Tokyo Big Sight.
This year, under the main theme of "5G & IoT - Creating New Value," the seminars and exhibits in WTP2017 focused on following keywords: 5th Generation Mobile Communication System (5G), Internet of Things (IoT)" , Positioning, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Offshore & Undersea Communication Technology, Telecommunication for Robots & Drone, Wireless Technologies and Systems for Factory use, Terahertz-wave sensing & communication, etc.
The number of the visitors to the event exceeded 50,000 including the visitors to the co-located events: "Wireless Japan 2017/Wireless IoT Expo", "Transport System Expo 2017", and "International Drone Expo 2017." We are grateful to all the visitors and all people concerned in the event.
On 14-15 June, Yokosuka Telecom Research Park, Inc. (YRP, Inc.) hosted "eCall Day in Yokosuka 2017" with an aim to provide auto manufacturers and manufacturers of automotive electronics with useful information to solve problems caused by the introduction of "eCall," an emergency call systems for vehicle collision, in March 2018 in Europe.
On 14 June, after the introduction about the PSAP User Operation Service by YRP Inc., a seminar was held inviting experts of "eCall" as speakers from in and out of Japan. During the seminar, products and devices for evaluation test of "eCall" were displayed at the booths set at the entrance hall of YRP Center No. 1 Bldg. On 15 June, one-on-one consultation event was held as an opportunity to discuss about the matters related to "eCall" with those experts. The number of the application for the event exceeded our expectation, and we again realized that "eCall" is now unavoidable topic for auto manufacturers and manufacturers of automotive electronics. The event ended in a great success, and we are truly grateful to all those who participated and concerned in the event.

Sino-Japan Workshop on the Next Generation Mobile Communication Technology and Application 2017
7-9 July 2017, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan
YRP Committee, Japan-China ICT Forum, and China FuTURE FORUM co-hosted "Sino-Japan Workshop on the Next Generation Mobile Communication Technology and Application 2017" which was technically co-sponsored by IEICE-CS/RCS and held during 7-9 July 2017 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
The workshop was held in Hokkaido University inviting Mr. Masahito Nakamichi, Direcotor-General, Hokkaido Bureau of Telecommunications MIC, to the opening session as a guest. There were 19 Japanese participants from industrial and academic sectors of Japan headed by Mr. Akio Motai, President of YRP R&D Promotion Committee, and 14 Chinese participants lead by Dr. You Xiaohu, Professor of Southeast University (Secretary General of FuTURE Mobile Communication FORUM).
Participants enjoyed lively discussions and opinion exchange on the featured topics of the workshop: 5G Platform including Open5G, 5G related technology, 5G Security, Beyond 5G, IoT, millimeter-wave technology, etc.

The 4th General Assembly of
Wireless Smart Utility Network Promotion Committee

On 21 July 2017, the 4th General Assembly of Wireless Smart Utility Network (WSN) Promotion Committee was held in Tokyo. Mr. Kazutaka Nakamizo, Director for Standardization Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, was invited as a guest and gave a congratulatory speech.
In the General Assembly, Activity Report for the FY2016 and Activity Plan for the FY2017 were proposed and approved. Executives of the Committee and the members of Steering Committee for the FY2017 were also approved.
The 9th General Assembly of Broadband Wireless Forum

On 31 May 2017, the 9th General Assembly of Broadband Wireless Forum was held in Tokyo.
Following the opening remarks of Dr. Norihisa Doi, President of Broadband Wireless Forum, the guest, Mr. Katsuya Watanabe, Director of Radio Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, gave a speech.
Afterwards, the Activity Report for the FY2016 and Activity Plan for the FY2017 had been proposed and approved.

On 7 June 2017, the 21st General Assembly of YRP R&D Promotion Committee was held at YRP Hall in YRP Center No. 1 Building.
Following the opening remarks of Mr. Akio Motai, President of YRP R&D Promotion Committee, the guests, Mr. Yuto Yoshida, Mayor of the Yokosuka City, and Mr. Hiroyuki Takeda, Director-General for Policy Coordination, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, gave speeches.
Afterwards, the Activity Report and the Statement of Account for the FY2016 and Activity Plan and Budget for the FY2017 had been proposed and approved. This time, there were changes of two auditors due to the expiration of their terms of services and newly appointed auditors were approved.
